A small speck of dust fell from the shoddy ceiling of the low income studio apartment. A bare bulb hung from the ceiling like a man from a noose, the sickly light it cast illuminating the speck as it floated slowly down. It wafted in the air, pushed and pulled by the unseen but ever-present draft, and landed on the barrel of the newly purchased gun. The gun perched precariously on the thigh of the wraith like figure sitting on the splintered wood of the floor, box of bullets sitting open, minus one, nearby.
The shell of a man watched the dust set on the instrument of his destruction with the same detached feeling that had plagued him all his life. The same lack of feeling he experienced while buying the snub-nosed revolver and the single box of bullets earlier that day.
A too thin arm, covered in the dark purple scars of past attempts lifted the gun slowly, pressing it to the temple that lay beneath the dark curtain of hair. A thumb that still hadn't regained all feeling pulled the hammer back while dark hazel eyes stared into the past.
"End..."
Spoken softly to the empty room.
Followed by the click of the hammer, and the bang of a gun.
